My friend and I write all about sweat-related problems, solutions to them, and even products that you can use. Learn more on how you can live with hyperhidrosis by reading my friend Oscar’s story here.
In this Kopari deodorant review, I will discuss the benefits of detoxing your underarms, some facts about the brand, and what I like and don’t like about this deodorant.
Before I discuss armpit detox, watch the video below on why Kopari is one of the best all-natural deodorants in the market.
Benefits of Armpit Detox
Armpit detox? Say what?! It is usually the reaction I get, believe me. Like how people mix-up deodorants and antiperspirants, a lot of people don’t know the damage they’ve caused on their underarms from years of using products that clog their pores.
Now that you’ve made the switch, your underarms can finally breathe. But that means that your underarms will release all those toxins by producing more sweat than usual. This can be the cause of a really terrible body odor.
Guess what, there are always solutions for everything. Especially if it’s just bad body odor. Don’t worry, it’s not “just” body odor for me, for some this can be the cause of insecurity or embarrassment. No worries, I’m here to help by teaching you how to properly detox your pits.
Unlike the detox you may have heard as a kid, this kind of detox does not need juicers and vegetables for a juice fast. It’s a pretty simple process, but patience is the key ingredient (among others).
Always prepare enough ingredients before you start a detox so you won’t have to go out and hunt for them in the middle of it all. That said, you would need three things. Calcium bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar, and water.
Get a glass or plastic bowl, mix equal parts of the three ingredients (1 tablespoon usually works for me) until it turns into a paste. All you need to do now is apply it on your underarms, let it stay for a bit and rinse.
Start with 5 minutes in the first week, gradually increasing the time you leave it on per week. By the third or fourth week, you may leave it on for 15-20 minutes. You have to slowly increase the time because you don’t want a bad reaction to the mixture because some people have very sensitive skin.
Patience is the last thing and the most important ingredient you need in this detox because this process can be as short as 5 days or as long as 4-5 weeks, depending on how fast your body can adjust to non-aluminum products. Now we’ll go to the history of Kopari and why it’s an amazing brand. Read more below.
What is Kopari?
Kopari is an American brand started by a mother of three, Gigi Goldman and a certified organic chef and surfer Kiana Cabell. Both women had one thing in common — the love (or shall I say addiction) to everything all-natural and everything coconut.
Kiana had this idea because she lived in Hawaii with her pro-surfer dad who was also a restauranteur, so naturally, she loved food and everything about it. She then moved to southern California to take a culinary course only finding out that there was so much “junk” as she put it, that people put into their bodies.
She decided to stop that course and took another class instead — thus becoming a certified organic chef. She then met Gigi Goldman and both of them realized that hey, the coconut oil we have here is not the best one after all.
They then flew to a tiny archipelago in southeast Asia called the Philippines. A popular tourist and beach destination, the Philippines have the best coconuts. The trip started out as something different though, as Goldman brought her eldest son with her to build several houses for those people who recently lost their homes to natural disasters.
She noticed that in some places they visited, people would open coconuts, fresh and that the coconut oil the people would make at home were the best. So she and Kiana decided that they would only get the best for their consumers.
Kopari’s coconuts are not sourced from big farms, instead, they source them from small family-owned coconut farms therefore everything is small batch and the quality is really checked and that you only get the best.
Kopari isn’t just about deodorants, they have creams, lip balms, lip scrubs, coconut melts that can be used in different ways, and their famous coconut deodorant.

What I Love About Kopari
1. All-natural
All the ingredients in Kopari are plant-based and cruelty-free which means that all the ingredients not only come from nature but do NOT support any form of animal cruelty.
Their ingredient list contains propylene glycol, propanediol, w, sodium stearate, fragrance, saccharomyces ferment**, caprylyl/capryl glucoside, sodium caproyl/lauroyl lactylate, ethylhexylglycerin, polyglyceryl-5 oleate, triethyl citrate, sodium cocoyl glutamate, silica, glyceryl caprylate, Cocos Nucifera (coconut) water, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Oil, glycerin, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Juice, sodium anisate, glyceryl laurate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, and citric acid.
Some of the ingredients may sound new to you but Kopari has assured us that most of these ingredients are derived from plant sources, a perfect example would be sodium anisate which was derived from the star anise plant, and is currently a popular preservative used by all-natural cosmetic companies.
2. Small batch and fair trade
As mentioned above, Kopari sources their coconuts from the Philippines. But unlike other brands that get their raw materials from huge farms, Kopari made sure to support small family-owned farms and even committing to giving 1 USD per purchase to build houses and provide a clean water source for communities that are affected by calamities. There is a small Gawad Kaling (GK) village named after Kopari.

3. Smells Amazing and Lasts All Day
They have 5 different variants starting with the original coconut milk, driftwood, beach, gardenia, and their fragrance-free variant for people with extra sensitive skin.
The all-time favorite is the coconut milk smell because it makes you smell like you’re relaxing underneath a coconut tree at a beach in some tropical destination. It has this fresh vibe that people are going for, thus being the best seller.
What I Don’t Like About Kopari
1. Red Marks
Although there aren’t many bad reviews, there a few people who have complained that they developed rashes or red marks that feel itchy or have a burning sensation.
Although Kopari is paraben and phthalate-free, these marks could be caused by the fragrance used. So I suggest switching to the fragrance-free variant so that there’s no added ingredient that can cause redness. Make sure to let the red marks heal first and please go to the doctor if this happens to you.
2. Unclear Ingredient
Listed as their fifth ingredient, Kopari just says “fragrance” not indicating what type they used for their product. This can be very problematic for people who are sensitive to certain types of fragrances.
That said, I hope they change it soon and be completely transparent with their ingredient list because people may have bad allergic reactions and they can’t really tell the doctor everything in their deodorant.
3. Does Not Work
Some people have said that Kopari doesn’t work for them, because they still end up smelly after applying the product properly. They say that they smell “funny” and that the smell is worse than how they normally do when they don’t put any product on.
I always ask if they did the detox first as the problem can be because they suddenly switched to Kopari without taking the adjustment period into consideration.
One review I read said that Kopari lasts the whole day after she completed a full underarm detox. That’s why I always say that you have to be very patient because it can take up to a month before your underarms fully adjust to aluminum-free stuff.
Conclusion
More and more products are being launched in the market, and I’m just talking about deodorants. This billion-dollar industry is slowly making the switch, as I noticed that new companies ditch the chemicals and go for a better, more natural approach to preventing bad underarm odor.
Kopari is an amazing well-rounded brand if you ask me. Inside and out, the founders down to the product itself, make up a family that gives back to communities and in return they not only help kids finish school and provide villages with water, they also provide us with world-class coconut products that make us smell amazing.
I’m glad you dropped by to check my blog out. As a person from the Philippines, I can confirm that the coconuts here are amazing and that you should definitely fly here sometimes to see our beautiful beaches and of course taste the best fruits.
