Has it happened to you that you are invited to your best friend’s wedding and you just wonder what you should put on because you know ahead of time that you will have huge sweat marks in your armpits because of excessive sweating?
Things are even worse for you when you are asked to wear a specific color of a dress shirt or dress. Let’s assume you are the groom’s best man or the bride’s maid of honor. You will have to wear whatever the bride and groom will choose for you.
Not only to weddings but also to all kind of social events, excessive sweating in your armpits, forehead or palms is highly embarrassing.
That presentation that you have to give, and you know that you will want to show something, and immediately thoughts like “…but everybody will see my sweat marks”, or “… I cannot do that because I sweat too much and that is awful” flood your brain and off are you are to a vicious cycle.
If you tend to sweat excessively when you go to social gatherings, you have a condition called nervous sweating.
Nervous sweating is when you sweat because you get nervous. But how to stop nervous sweating?
Understanding Nervous Sweating
Nervous sweating affects people greatly because it is a condition that makes them insecure and very nervous about themselves.
When you dread sweating the most, that is when it happens the most. All the time you have to give a speech, meet new people, meet well-known people, go to weddings, funerals, church, etc., your fear about sweating triggers your nervous system and that again triggers the sweat glands.
Some consider nervous sweating a social phobia. However, I do not think that this is the case. If you sweat excessively when you get nervous, I can only guess that you always sweat easily and even excessively.
I have faced nervous sweating for many years, but I consider it to be a case of primary hyperhidrosis and not so much a social phobia.

What Is Primary Hyperhidrosis?
The term primary hyperhidrosis is used to describe a condition where a person sweats excessively for no known reason. That means that you could not find a cause for this sweating.
Yet hyperhidrosis only happens in your armpits, palms, feet, groin, and forehead. You do not sweat all over your body when you have hyperhidrosis. That is because there are the apocrine sweat glands, which are connected to your endocrine system.
Sweating is actually for controlling body temperature, but especially in people suffering from primary hyperhidrosis, the apocrine sweat glands apparently have a different view of that important body function. Nevertheless, everybody that gets into a serious predicament will start to sweat at some point because of these sweat glands.
Adrenaline triggers these sweat glands and they go into production. Research is not sure what causes hyperhidrosis, but one thing is sure, in people suffering from this condition, the sweat glands do not regulate this sweating function correctly.
It is known that people suffering from hyperhidrosis produce at least 6 times more sweat than the body requires cooling down.

How does primary hyperhidrosis relate to nervous sweating?
As said before, most people that sweat excessively when they know that they will be among people and engaging in some kind of activity.
However, most likely, they do not only sweat excessively in those situations, they also sweat when sitting on the couch at home, watching their favorite Netflix series.
So, technically, nervous sweating is one kind of primary hyperhidrosis, as there is gustatory hyperhidrosis, among others.
How To Stop Nervous Sweating
The question is, can you do anything about this problem? Can you stop nervous sweating? Is this a medical condition that requires medical attention?
Those are questions that I asked for many years. You must know that I have a teacher, always working with kids of different ages, attending staff meetings, giving presentations, presenting school programs, planning school trips, among others. Besides, I am actively involved in church activities, like leading the orchestra, playing the piano for various musical groups, etc.
Can you see how often I am socially active, all the while I am sweating and wondering what people might say of those huge armpit sweat marks. I also tend to sweat excessively in my forehead when participating in all these activities.
I tried multiple things over the years to stop sweating so much, but never did I find something that helped.
Only until around 2 years ago, when I was so fed up with my sweating again, I did my research and found a few solutions. Things have changed ever since and I feel more confident than I ever did because no more marks are found on my dress shirts.
I believe that these miracle products have been on the market for only a few years time because I had never found them before even if I searched for a solution for years.
How to Stop Nervous Sweating: Option #1
There are great undershirts that are sweat proof. They have thick pads sewn into the armpit area with hydro-shield technology that catches up all sweat before it can come into your shirt or dress at all.
Although most of these undershirts are for men, there are makers that have launched a line for women recently.
I have used this undershirt ever since, every single day, and I absolutely love it. Yes, you continue to sweat as much as you did before, but you never have to worry about sweat marks anymore.
How to Stop Nervous Sweating: Option #2
Another solution that I found is clinical strength antiperspirants. These have substances that block the sweat glands completely for an extended period. You can get up to 7 days of protection, depending on your body’s reaction to the antiperspirant and also on the product.
In recent years, much research has been done to find help the 3% of the population suffering from nervous sweating or hyperhidrosis.
Clinical strength antiperspirants are not those that you find in your closest Walmart store. There are many deodorants-antiperspirants that claim to reduce sweating. Deodorants make you smell fresh during the day, and antiperspirants reduce sweating.
However, these products that you find on the shelves of your favorite store, are not the ones that help people with hyperhidrosis. In fact, I have tried many of those strong antiperspirants that claim to reduce sweating, but they never helped me.
Why is that so?
Clinical strength antiperspirants are specifically designed for individuals suffering from hyperhidrosis. Aluminum, among the most common and effective sweat stoppers, is used in larger quantities than in regular antiperspirants. For people that workout or that only sweat mildly, your favorite store-bought antiperspirants will do.
But if you want to stop your sweating completely, clinical strength antiperspirants is what you need.
I have used a clinical strength antiperspirant for over two years now, and it works wonders. I have been able to have completely dry armpits for 7 days with only one application.
Unfortunately, people suffering from hyperhidrosis cannot find another cure for their excessive sweating than clinical strength antiperspirants, sweat proof undershirts, Botox injections, and other medical interventions.
For me, medical intervention was never an option because it is very expensive, and also because it has not proven to help every patient suffering from hyperhidrosis. In some cases, it was only temporary help.
