excessive underarm sweating solutionsHave you been looking for excessive underarm sweating solutions for a long time?

I had always thought that I would have to live with my excessive sweating problem for a lifetime. Although I tried natural home remedies and read on the Internet about solutions, it never helped me at all until I found the solution. Not even seeing a doctor brought a lasting solution.

Now, I am more confident than I was for many years because I do not have to worry about embarrassing sweat stains anymore. I don’t have to shower twice before going to the meeting nor do I have to bring clothes along to change wherever I go. Neither do I have to go outside, hold my arms up and try to dry the shirt a little. Also, there is no more need to walk into the bathroom and dry off my armpits.

Do these situations sound familiar to you?

I cannot tell you how happy I am that I finally achieved the longed-for “sweat freedom”.

In this article, I will describe the sweat problem and also give you my best sweat solutions, which can ultimately bring you to your “sweat freedom” as well.

But before I go more into detail, let us look a little bit into what sweating is and why we actually sweat.

Understanding Why People Sweat

Sweating is a perfectly normal thing our body does to cool down by activating the sweat glands.

When you exercise, your body gets warmer and by nature, your sweat glands get the message to turn on and try to cool down.

However, there is approximately 5% of the population whose sweat glands never turn off. This condition is called hyperhidrosis. These individuals continue to sweat without an obvious reason.

Individuals suffering from hyperhidrosis sweat excessively while sitting and watching television, while at the dinner table and eating, when being outside in the coldest winter, or while being in an air-conditioned room.

It is important to point out that hyperhidrosis is NOT when people sweat excessively during an active fitness routine. When you do fitness, there is a reason behind the sweating, because your body needs to cool down. When you are sitting on the coach in a ventilated room without being nervous and you still sweat then you are likely suffering from hyperhidrosis.

I have been suffering from primary hyperhidrosis for many, many years, since my early teenage years. I would sweat excessively when being nervous, but not only that. Being an elementary school teacher for many years, I was often embarrassed when the kids saw my large sweat stains and asked me if it was really that hot in the classroom.

Not that it was so hot, I just couldn’t stop sweating. There was no way or solution that I could think of that could help me to stop that embarrassment.

Therefore, sweating is a natural process in which the body is trying to get to the desired temperature again.

Two Types Of Excessive Sweating

As said, there is this 5% of the population that sweats excessively.  However, there are 2 different reasons why these individuals sweat so much.  Let’s look a little into each one.

1) Primary hyperhidrosis. This condition is known to start during puberty when the apocrine sweat glands develop.  These glands are located deeper in the layers beneath the skin, and also this type of sweat is made up of other components than that of the eccrine sweat glands.

When people suffer from primary hyperhidrosis, they will sweat at any given time of the day, no matter what activity they are doing.  Not only do they sweat sometimes, but they also sweat regularly.  Commonly, this type of sweating is linked to being nervous and sweating more when being socially active.

Research has found that more than 4 times the required amount of sweat is produced when people suffer from primary hyperhidrosis, yet research has not yet determined why this happens.

For example, I will sweat mostly on my feet, and my underarms and sometimes on my forehead and neck. But it becomes a serious problem when you sweat non-stop in the armpits. Sweat literally drips and rolls down to your hips. That can not only uncomfortable but very embarrassing.

At first sight, it looks like a hormonal imbalance, but then again, there has not been found a way to reestablish the balance.  Therefore, when individuals sweat excessively for no known reason, it is likely they suffer from hyperhidrosis.

2) Secondary hyperhidrosis. There is a condition in which people start because of health issues.  The most common and well-known example is heart disease.  When people suffer from heart disease, they commonly sweat very much.

There are other reasons behind sweating excessively because of health-related issues.

This condition, however, in most cases treatable.  When people get help with their obesity or heart disease, and many other triggers, the sweating usually ceases.

When suffering from secondary hyperhidrosis, often referred as generalized hyperhidrosis, you should definitely seek medical advice as soon as possible.

Are There Solutions To Excessive Sweating?

As I stated above, I had been looking for solutions for many years and in different ways, but I did never find a lasting solution to the problem. Because of my overweight, I used to think that once I would lose weight, the nasty sweating for no reason would stop. Nevertheless, after losing 40+ pounds, little changed. Sweating continued as it had before.

I also believed that it had to do with food. After tackling my lifestyle and going the healthy road, eating sugar and flour free for months, things stayed the same and I was very often frustrated. There was even a time when I stopped looking for solutions because nothing helped.

Once, somebody told me that he believed I had problems with my mindset about sweating. He said that it is not possible for someone to sweat that much for no obvious reason. Somehow the person thought that I could do something about my problem, when really I could not, no matter what I tried.

Although I sometimes gave up on looking for solutions, I finally found the answer after doing research. I started using a clinical strength antiperspirant and a sweat proof undershirt in July 2016 and they have not disappointed me at all. They were my life-savers.

Let me share with you what I did.

The Best Solutions For Me

I was so fed up with my problem that I decided to search for a lasting solution because the ones that I had found so far were not effective for me.  I went into Amazon and typed sweating into the search box.  It took me a few seconds to get to an antiperspirant.  Did some research and bought it shortly after that.

I was desperate for help, and I thought I would have to give it a try.  Let me tell you a little about the products.

My First Solution

A simple towelette that you apply to your armpits in the night before going to bed and forget about sweating for the next few days.

A complete sweat stopper, this product was so amazing that I could even go without all the extra layers of clothes that I was used to wearing.

Sweatblock has aluminum as the active ingredient, which blocks the sweat glands temporarily and you will not sweat in your armpits at all.  After a few days, which is different from person to person, you will see that your sweating is back to normal.  You will need to reapply this product at least every 4-10 days to not sweat at all.  Although this is not a solution that lasts, it is effective every time you apply it.

This clinical strength antiperspirant will not disappoint you!  I have liked the product very much and used it often.

However, since I am not a person that likes too many routines, I find myself forgetting to apply it in the night, and then I sweat during the day.  Therefore, the Thompson Tee, my second solution, comes in handy and is a great and wonderful product to cover up when you forget Sweatblock.

My Second Solution

After stumbling over Sweatblock, I also found the Thompson Tee, an undershirt that has a patented hydro-shield technology to soak up your sweat before it can reach your clothes.  It is a thick pad that is sewn into the armpits that do its job quite well.

I bought my first undershirt right after buying Sweatblock.  They even arrived at the same time.  I just wanted to make sure that I would not have the sweating problem anymore, and both products just did their job so well, that I find it needless to use both products at the same time.

I now keep a full week’s supply of these great undershirts and I wear them daily ever since that day.

The strange thing is that you sweat and you feel wet in the underarms, but your clothes are completely dry.  The sweat goes directly into the sweat pads and never bothers you.

I remember the first time I wore this shirt, I would feel my underarms quite a few times because I felt that I was sweating excessively.  However, nothing came through.  I was amazed and excited at the same time.

For so long had I looked for a lasting solution.  Nope, I did not stop sweating as I would have liked, but no sweat stains were to be seen again.  And my clothes stay new for much longer.

All my dress shirts had ugly yellow sweat stains, which were there from wearing them only a few times.  And now, whenever I get a new shirt, it will stay nice for much longer.  I can spend less on clothes than I did before, and the Thompson Tees are very durable.

The good news about these shirts is that they are available for men and women, and you can find them in different styles and colors.

Which Of The 2 Solutions Is Better?

When comparing these two products, I can say that they both have positive things and negative things. However, personally, I prefer the Thompson Tee over Sweatblock.

As said, it takes some time in the evening at least once or twice a week to apply SweatBlock and I prefer the Thompson Tees because of saving time. I strongly dislike routines like these.  That is why I often forget or just don’t like to take the time to do it.

If I wouldn’t have found the Thompson Tees, I would most likely not forget because sweating is annoying. However, since I found the Thompson Tees, it is easier to grab one of those in the morning, put it on and forget about sweat stains for the whole day, although you sweat heavily.

Nevertheless, when I go to special events, I like to put on SweatBlock so I don’t necessarily have to wear undershirts to stay fresh the whole day.

I also hear people being unsure about putting on Sweatblock because of health-related issues.  That was once my concern too, but after doing my research on that, I found that there is not so much to be concerned about after all.  Click here to read the full article about the safety of chemicals used in antiperspirants.

It all comes down to what you prefer. If you don’t care about continuing to sweat without the ugly sweat stains on your clothes, then the Thompson Tee is for you. However, if you don’t like to wear undershirts and hate to have wet armpits, then Sweatblock is your best option.

I hope you are helped with this article if you are suffering from excessive sweating for a long time and have been searching for a lasting solution.

  1. Hey Oscar!
I have dealt with excessive sweating for years. i also have anxiety and always put them together. I will be checking out thompson tee! I actually have found a difference in my daily sweating when i stopped using anti-perspirants that contained Metals!! I switched to a deoderant called Tom’s from Maine. and what a difference! Still cant stand the sweat stains. I’m pretty thin and have always worn multiple shirts to hide the wet spots under my arms and have swapped out shirts multiple times a day. Some days I can switch my shirt 15 minutes after putting it on! I feel your pain! lol
    Thanks for sharing!
    Cheers,
    Benjamin

    1. Hi Benjamin, I hope you find the Thompson Tee helpful. I love those undershirts. Wear them every single day. You make a great observation there about antiperspirants that contain metals. I have not experienced that before and wouldn’t have noticed a difference between using those or not using them.

I also wore multiple layers for many years to hide the ugly sweat stains which were always wet after a short time.

Hope these products will help you with your problem.

  2. I had no idea that there was an actual condition that causes continuous sweating. It’s strange that there is no obvious cause of the issue. Could it be hormonal? It seems to me that this condition probably causes other issues as well as embarrassment. Because the purpose of sweating is to cool the body down, couldn’t excessive sweating then cause excessive cooling? Especially if you are sweating in very cold conditions.

I am glad that you have found solutions to this issue, and I’m sure that sharing them will be helpful to many others. One question though, I have heard that antiperspirants have a negative effect on the body. Is sweatblock healthy to use?

    1. Hi Mariah,

that is an interesting point of view.  Actually the excessive sweating is done by the apocrine sweat glands, which are connected to the nervous system.  These sweat glands are not for cooling down our body, but more to kind of relieve stress, anxiety, fears, etc.  And since the apocrine sweat glands are not all over the body as the eccrine glands which are our cooling system, you will not be cooling down too much.

Hyperhidrosis is a hormonal imbalance, but it is not clear whether what causes the imbalance, neither is it clear how to stop it.

These sweat glands just don’t know when to stop sweating!  People with hyperhidrosis sweat at least 4 times the amount of a person that doesn’t have hyperhidrosis.

Antiperspirants is a much debated topic!  I have done lots of research on that topic and I have come to the conclusion that there is just not enough evidence to prove that antiperspirants cause major health problems.  There are claims about antiperspirants causing cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

Aluminum is the active ingredient in antiperspirants, but we do take more aluminum into our body by foods than we do by sweating.  Also, research has found that around 1.5% of aluminum from antiperspirants is actually absorbed into the body, while a much great percentage is coming in through foods.

It is a very debated topic, but for someone like me, I use antiperspirants because they solve a very embarrassing problem for me!

Thanks for commenting on this article.  I am glad that you found it helpful.

  3. This is a great site to create awareness for a very real problem that effects more people than you would think!

I have hyperhidrosis and it is an issue that I most recently found out about. I just thought that I sweat a lot and that it was just a thing that some people have. But then a guy that works for me touched some bare metal parts one day and left rusty fingerprints. He told me about hyperhidrosis and that is when I started inquiring.

Thank you for your tips on sweating ! People who don’t have to deal with it wouldn’t understand what a problem and embarrassment it can be!

    Mike

    1. Hey Mike!  Thanks for your comments.  Most of us find out that excessive sweating is actually a condition and it has explanations through either research or by accident as you have found out.

The good thing is that there are solutions to the problem.

And yes, nobody does understand what it means to sweat excessively and you have no control over it.

      Thanks for stopping by,

      Oscar
