Hi everyone,
If you have been sweating excessively for a long time, you likely have searched for solutions, and one of the first things that you will find as a solution is Botox injections.
However, there are great alternatives for botox that I have personally tried over and over again. I would not recommend anybody to go for Botox if by all means possible.

You’re not alone in dealing with sweat-related problems. I have been managing and dealing with hyperhidrosis for over 2 decades now so I do know how hard it is. Read my story here.
Because I have tried and tested other products that solved the problem, Botox is not necessary.
So in this article, I am first going to talk a little about Botox, why it is used, how effective it is, and why I do not recommend it and finally, I am going to show you what products I use to stop excessive sweating.
First off, people suffering from hyperhidrosis, which is a condition in which they sweat uncontrollably for a known or an unknown reason. When that happens, people face embarrassment all the time. They have huge sweat marks on their clothes because of sweating, or they leave a wet handprint everywhere they go.
I have a serious sweating problem myself. My armpits are commonly dripping with sweat, even during the cold winter months. Also, sometimes I sweat a lot on my forehead and groin area, but that is happening more often when I am working physically or when I am really hot.
When people sweat excessively, they hate to talk about their problem, but today with the Internet, it is easy to ask Google what you can do about this problem. That is at least what I did. People around me just did not have an understanding of my situation, so I took the Internet as my resource.
And yes, it did not take long until Botox injections popped up. I did give it thought for some time. However, I did not know where to go to get the treatment, and I knew that it would cost me a lot.
So I just kept on living with the problem, not knowing what to do about it, until one day I found the product that really worked and did not cost nearly as much as Botox.
I am happy with these products that I am going to talk about in a while and why I definitely love them. But now, let me talk a little more about Botox.
What is Botox?
Botox is a neurotoxin made of naturally occurring poison, that is used in the cosmetic world in appropriate non-harmful amounts. It is injected underneath your skin and stops muscle movement, thus, stopping aging. In cosmetic terms, this product is used to stop wrinkles from occurring at all or getting worse.
Individuals that want to correct imperfections on their bodies rely on Botox. It helps body parts to be larger and prevents wrinkles.
It is no wonder that this product is trendy these days since it helps you look younger for a longer time.
Studies believe that at least 6 million injections are administered every single year, and numbers are expected to rise drastically over the next years, because of the trend Botox has become in the past decade.
Botox is also used to stop excessive sweating. It is injected underneath the skin, giving the sweat glands the signal to stop producing sweat, which they do. Once this substance has settled, you can expect to not sweat anymore for extended periods of time exactly where you got the injection.
That means, that you will multiple injections all over your body parts that sweat excessively. For instance, if your sweating problem is in your armpits, that area is fairly large so you would look for multiple injections.
What Does A Botox Treatment Cost?
Botox treatments can become very costly because this is a solution that does not last. Depending on your body, if you have Botox injected to stop excessive sweating, you can expect to have to repeat the procedure every 4-6 months.
The cost per injection largely depends on where you live, but you will look at least at $1,000 USD per application. Since your armpits are a large area as mentioned, you will need a full treatment, which is very expensive.
If you sweat excessively, these prices can easily increase, because more is needed to make sure that it is effective. In my case, I cannot afford Botox, so I had no other choice than to look to alternatives for Botox.
Is Botox Effective?
As stated, Botox is costly and if you want to go through the procedure, you want to make sure that it works.
Studies claim that sweating is reduced up to 90%, some going even higher. As I did my research, I found individuals that reported effectiveness, and others who were very unhappy with the procedure.
Since this is a neurotoxin, it works differently for everybody. Around 4% of Botox patients, according to doctors, are resistant to this substance, aka, money, in that case, is spent for nothing, except to find out that it doesn’t work because, in order to find out if you are resistant, you have to go through the procedure once.
This has caused some people to be very disappointed with this procedure because they spent a good part of their fortune to find out that it is nothing for them.
Then there are those individuals that go through this procedure 2-3 times every year because they can forget their antiperspirants and they never again see ugly sweat marks. Although sweating is not completely stopped, you will sweat much less than a normal sweater would. You can expect your armpits to become only damp if at all after an exercise routine.
Then there are those who do Botox injections once in their life and would not recommend it. Why? It did reduce their sweating, but they were not happy enough to go and spend that same amount of money over and over again. They prefer to live with hyperhidrosis than paying such a high price for something that does not change their lives so much.
People that sweat a lot when doing physical activity find this procedure very helpful. However, not all sufferers from hyperhidrosis are happy with the outcome.
Since Botox can be applied to whatever body part where you are suffering from excessive sweating, it is often applied to the palms of your hands. And that is one particular area where it seems not to be as effective as you would want it to be.
Speaking generally, Botox is effective in stopping excessive sweating, but considering the price and the number of applications that you will need in the coming years, you might as well look into alternatives for Botox.
And lastly, your body may develop a resistance to Botox if you use it too often. In that case, after your body becomes resistant, you would have to look for an alternative for Botox and that is why I do not recommend going for this treatment.
Is Botox Safe?
There are no known side effects of using Botox. It is a relatively safe practice, although you will not want to self-administer it. A qualified doctor should do the treatment.
Not many side effects are known. It can cause flu-like symptoms in the first few days after application. And if applied on your head, you can expect headaches. Others report blurred vision, numbness, bleeding, redness, dry mouth, rashes, and others. However, these side effects would be more in the case of using Botox for facial beauty purposes.
Bruising is the worst side effect. Because you get so many needles, needless to say, that bruising will occur and you could be in pain for several days.
However, if done by a knowledgeable person, side effects are minimal in most cases. There are even people who do not experience any side effects.
Since the procedures are easy and quick, you could even have it done during a break at your job and return without problems right after application.
Do I Recommend Botox?
As said, I have not been able to get a Botox treatment because of the high cost. However, if I would not have found other solutions to excessive sweating, I might have considered Botox injections if I had been able to do so financially.
What I do not like about Botox is that you have to do it at least twice a year else your sweating will be as much as it was before.
Also, because of great alternatives to Botox, there is no need to spend thousands of dollars per year to stop sweating. After I have found another solution, I spend under $200 per year and I get the job done very well.
Botox is not a bad option, but not something you must have. However, if you have that money to spend and know already know that Botox works for you, I don’t think it is a bad option.
My #1 Alternative For Botox
In recent years, research has been done that has found that aluminum chloride is effective in treating hyperhidrosis.
With that knowledge, antiperspirants of clinical strength have been made to provide relief from excessive sweating.
Thankfully, there are now many antiperspirants that compete against each other, each one with pros and cons, but all of them effective.
For example, there is Sweatblock, which are small towelettes that you dab onto completely dry armpits and let it air dry. This product provides relief for up to 10 days.
Personally, I have seen up to 7 days of completely dry armpits, and another 7 days when sweating slowly came back. So, 14 days until I sweat again as much as I did before.
Then there is Duradry, a strong competitor of Sweatblock that offers a version that you roll onto your armpits before bedtime every 3-4 days, depending on your sweating, and the AM version which is a deodorant that helps you stay fresh all day long and also contains aluminum chloride to make sure that you will not sweat.
Zerosweat, Duradry, and other great products are nowadays found on the market which will do their job.
Ever since I found one of these, namely Sweatblock, which was the first one I ever used, I was completely happy with the product. Although it caused mild irritation every time I did not follow the instructions on the package very carefully, it was a game-changer.
It gave me back my confidence by preventing huge armpits sweat stains that I had lived with so many years. Not to mention, the positive effect it had on me financially. I did not have to spend a fortune to stop my embarrassing problem.
Be advised that these products have not only been effectively used on armpits. Some people have tried them on their forehead, their groin, their palms, and their feet. And some individuals report success. Just be careful with your first application, since aluminum chloride can cause skin irritation. Nevertheless, these products are intended for use in armpits.
Zerosweat is the only one of these makers that offers an alternative for palms. It has been understood in recent years that a higher dose of aluminum chloride is needed in your palms, for example, than in your armpits. Therefore, if you are hesitant about using the products intended for armpits in other body parts, this could be an alternative.
My #2 Alternative For Botox
Not only have I found antiperspirants of clinical strength highly effective for my sweating problem, but I have also used sweatproof undershirts to hide my sweat stains.
Although undershirts will not stop a sweating problem, they can be very effective in hiding those ugly sweat stains.
Also, if you are hesitant about using all kinds of chemicals, undershirts are the natural way to hide your sweating.
Personally, I have used the Thompson Tee for years already, and I would not want to go back to the regular Hanes undershirts that did not provide any relief.
Patented undershirts like Emojis, Itsdri, and the Thompson Tee have a wonderful pad sewn into your armpits that have the hydro technology. Sweat will be soaked up by these pads before it can make its way out into your second layer of dressing.
They are highly effective even without the use of clinical strength antiperspirants. Having used my undershirts continuously for years, I have never had the problem that sweat would come through.
Yes, the pads will get soaked after a long day of not changing, but sweat will still stay in. The only thing that happens is that they then become heavy and not so comfortable.
However, that only happens after hours and hours of excessive sweating.
As much as the antiperspirants, these undershirts have changed the game completely. I feel more confident than I did before. Now, I can go to whatever meeting and social gathering and I do not have to worry about ugly sweat stains.
What I like most about these undershirts is the fact that I can use them along with antiperspirants. So, if I forget to put on Sweatblock on a particular evening, it is no problem because the undershirts do its job well enough.
I can highly recommend using sweat proof undershirts, which are available in different colors, versions, for both genders, among others. They are worth a try.
Conclusion: Are There Alternatives For Botox?
Definitely, there are alternatives for Botox. If you want to use antiperspirants of clinical strength, that is a great option. Also, if you don’t want all those chemicals in and on your body, sweatproof undershirts are available that do not stop your sweating, but at least hide it effectively.
Some might have already thought of how much I sweat. I suffer from primary hyperhidrosis. And I do not sweat moderately. I sweat excessively. I could count the days in the past decade that I would not have sweated at all on a certain day. It would not be a handful. Only after I started clinical strength antiperspirants did I stop sweating.
I would often change 3-4 times a day only to find out that I could have changed twice as often to get my armpits drenched in sweat.
However, these awesome alternatives that I have found for excessive sweating have changed my life completely in the sense that now I do not have to worry about what clothes to wear, how close to sit next to a person, if and how to congratulate a person, give a lesson or speech with confidence… even if I have to raise my arms to show something, and many other things.
I am positive that these alternatives for Botox would help anybody suffering from primary hyperhidrosis, although at a different level.
Botox is not a bad option if you have the money to spend, but if you would rather spend your hard-earned money on something else, you will want to go a different route.
Have you experienced with Botox? How did you like it? Would you do it again? And if, why or why not? Or have you ever tried a clinical strength antiperspirant or a sweat-proof undershirt? Was it as effective as it has been for me? What did you like about it and what not?
