You’re not alone in dealing with sweat-related problems. I have been managing and dealing with hyperhidrosis for over 2 decades now so I do know how hard it is. Read my story here.

I have lived with excessive sweating in my armpits for many years and I know what I am talking about, and I am here to help you.  Read more about my story here.

Why Do We Sweat?

Sweating is the body’s way of cooling off.  It is your naturally built-in air-condition.  If you would not sweat, your temperature would go up and up when doing physical work which can be very dangerous.  Once body temperature goes up, your brain signals the sweat glands to start producing a watery liquid to cool down.

While you sweat, you also get rid of toxins stowed in your body.  That is why you want to sweat, because it is, besides urination, another way of getting rid of toxins in your liver and kidneys.  Sweating unclogs the pores in your skin that keep your skin clean and healthy.

Getting rid of toxins is a reason why you want to take a shower right after heavy sweating, else toxins stay on your skin and will likely go back into the pores if not washed away in time.

Sweating is, therefore, an important bodily function to keep you healthy.  It is not just a bad thing that smells bad.

Why Do We Sweat Excessively?

There is a small 2%-3% of the population that suffers from a condition called hyperhidrosis, a condition in which you sweat excessively while not working hard or being in direct sunlight.  People with this condition tend to sweat in fully air-conditioned rooms, while in their dress shirts or evening dresses, ready for social engagement or meeting.  They start to sweat excessively in the foreheads, underarms, in their palms, and even in their groin area.

They start to sweat, most likely, before they even arrive.  They just jumped out of the shower, and before they are off to the meeting, they have large armpit stains.  How embarrassing!  I am the perfect example of this condition.  I sweat so much during the day, and I could shower 5 times a day and it would not be enough.  Sweating just never stopped, and was even worse during social engagements.

I am the head principal of a private school.  Imagine how often I stood before a crowd, in front of parents, students, and teachers, having huge armpit sweat stains and I was just waiting to run off stage to get a shower and put on dry clothes.

People suffering from this condition have their sweat glands out of balance. Their sweat glands do not know when to stop sweating and when to start. Their trigger is not the part of the brain that balances body temperature, but the nervous system.  They seem to sweat a lot more when having to be around people.

In my case, I would sweat more when socially active, but I also sweat at home when not doing anything.  However, since nobody at home thinks it is awkward, I don’t give it that much thought.

Since there is no way to stop your nervous system from triggering the sweat glands, this is a condition you have to live with.  Sweating is not bad for your health, but it is just embarrassing and annoying.  You will have to live with this condition for a lifetime, except you get clinical strength antiperspirants, or you have your sweat glands removed by injections, surgery or another treatment.

I cannot forget to mention that there are medical reasons that can cause excessive sweating.  Click here to find out about these, in which case you are not looking for an antiperspirant, but a solution to a medical issue.

Best Rated Clinical Strength Antiperspirants?

1) Sweatblock

In recent years there has been a surge of clinical strength antiperspirants that have made their way into the market and helped people.

When I first looked for a solution, I found Sweatblock and it has been the long-sought-for solution.

Sweatblock contains aluminum in a higher percentage than normal antiperspirants would have.  This blocks the sweat glands completely and offers temporary relief, which means that you will have to apply the product again in order to stay dry in your armpits.  However, if you continue to use it, you can rest assured that you will have no large sweat stains in your armpits anymore.

Although there are strong competitors for Sweatblock, I absolutely love this product and think it is the best antiperspirant for hyperhidrosis that can be found.

You get 8 small towelettes packed into a small box.  This small package will give you relief from sweating for at least 28 days, but could easily block your sweat glands for up to 80 days, depending on how effective it is for you.

If you dab one of the 8 towelettes into your dry armpits just before bedtime, or sometime when you will not sweat in your armpits for at least the next 4 hours, you will see results the very next day. The armpits, which should be trimmed so the product is more effective, will stay completely dry for the next few days.

Depending on your resistance to the product, your armpits stay dry for 4 to 10 days.  If the instructions are followed completely, the product will last longer.  In my case, I was able to get full 7 days per application out of the product, and having armpit sweat return only gradually after these 7 days.

One box lasts me good 56+ days, which is fabulous.
